All eyes will be on Texas A&M-Clemson Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
The Aggies gave Clemson its toughest game in 2018, and this year, Texas A&M has to travel to Death Valley. But the Aggies have improved in Year 2 under Jimbo Fisher, most notably Kellen Mond who had an impressive Week 1 showing.
The CBS Sports studio analysts made their picks for the game Tuesday night, and former UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel is going with the upset.
“If you look at the numbers from this game a year ago, A&M outplayed Clemson,” Neuheisel said. “Now, they didn’t on the scoreboard, and it was one of the most entertaining games of the season. More first downs, more yards. You just put up those monster numbers that Kellen Mond enjoyed — 430 yards throwing the ball. I think because of (Texas A&M defensive coordinator) Mike Elko and what they’ve done defensively and look at the first game where they had four interceptions. One of the big concerns Elko had a year ago was the back end (of the defense) wasn’t able to play the ball. They’re better there this year. I think their run defense is going to corral (Clemson running back Travis) Etienne, and I’m going over the edge and telling you that A&M is going to win.”
Fellow analysts Aaron Taylor, Brian Jones and Randy Cross all picked Clemson; so, Neuheisel was the Lone Ranger in his prediction.
“Jimbo Fisher knows this lair, right? He’s been in Death Valley many times. I like A&M in this spot.”
