Texas A&M sees first player plan to transfer after Jimbo Fisher’s firing
Texas A&M dominated the headlines on Sunday morning with news of Jimbo Fisher’s firing. The Aggies have underperformed consistently, sitting at 6-4 currently. This is after the team finished 5-7 in 2022.
As is typically the case when a coaching change happens, one player has already announced his intention to transfer from College Station. 4-star wide receiver Raymond Cottrell announced shortly after the Fisher news that he will be playing elsewhere in 2024.

Cottrell was a 4-star recruit and was ranked as the No. 30 WR in the 2023 class, per the 247Sports Composite ranking. Cottrell played at Milton High School in Milton, Florida, and was heavily recruited by Florida, Miami, and Georgia, among others. Ultimately, the receiver committed to Fisher and the Aggies.
In 2023, as a true freshman, Cottrell saw action against UL Monroe. The big-bodied receiver caught 1 pass for 13 yards in that matchup. Even without Fisher being fired, Cottrell faced an uphill battle to get playing time in College Station. The Aggies have a stacked receiver room that includes Evan Stewart, Noah Thomas, Micah Tease, and Moose Muhammad III.
Aggies fans can likely expect to see many more player and recruits announce their departure from the program in the coming days and weeks.
