While some fans might not find the “most-watched college football game this season on any network” significant in Week 2, the 9.35 is legitimately strong. Jason Kirk of the Shutdown Fullcast noted that the game would rank in the top 5 for 2023 regular-season games. That includes besting ESPN’s ratings for last year’s meeting between Texas and Alabama in Tuscaloosa, as Longhorn reporter Brian Davis pointed out.
Would’ve ranked fifth among last year’s regular-season games. “The 12-team playoff will make people care less about other games” was never going to be an actual thing. It’s at most a trade-off. Having said that, cfb having any type of playoff is of course haram https://t.co/HFSPAxyLfz

Last season’s Texas-Alabama game drew 8.76 million viewers on ESPN. Michigan is an eyeball magnet, too. In 2023, the top three most-watched games of the season featured the Wolverines. Texas-Washington was No. 4 overall (18.77 million). https://t.co/w8utzdd1XL
