Texas clinches SEC Championship Game berth with brilliant goal line stand vs. Texas A&M
Texas is headed to the SEC Championship Game.
After a dominant first half that saw the Longhorns build a 17-0 lead, the Aggies have been a bit more competitive in the second half. Texas A&M was in position to make it a 1-score game with just under 5 minutes remaining in the contest.
However, Texas’s defensive front produced a goal line stand for the ages to hold on to a 17-7 lead.
Here’s the final play of the stand, which never had a chance:

Texas A&M’s offense has struggled all night long. The Aggies were in position to make it a 1-score game largely due to mistakes made by the Longhorns. A&M’s only points of the night came on a pick-6 and the Aggies were only in the red zone on this possession because of another Texas turnover.
Texas A&M got just one more offensive possession after turning the ball over on downs, but it ended with a Marcel Reed fumble. Texas recovered and then ran out the remainder of the clock to end the game.
Texas A&M averaged just 4.2 yards per play on the night while Texas’s offense was north of 6 in that category. The Aggies also went 4-of-11 on third down in the loss.
Texas will face Georgia in the SEC Championship Game next weekend with an automatic berth in the College Football Playoff on the line.
