Texas defeats South Carolina in top-5 WBB showdown, snaps Gamecocks SEC streak

In a top-5 SEC showdown, No. 4 Texas defeated No. 2 South Carolina 66-62 in Austin on Sunday. The loss snaps a streak of 57 straight regular-season SEC wins for the Gamecocks dating back to December 2021.
Madison Booker led the way for Texas with 20 points. She shot 7-of-22 from the field and 6-of-7 at the line during the game. Booker made it a double-double with a team- high 11 rebounds over 39 minutes.
MiLaysia Fulwiley was the only Gamecock to reach double figures in the rare conference loss for Dawn Staley’s squad. She shot 4-of-9 from the field and 5-of-8 at the line.
South Carolina never led on Sunday. The game was tied 6 times, including 49-49 at the end of the 3rd quarter. In the box score, Texas was the better shooting team, making 44% of its field-goal attempts to South Carolina’s 37%. The Longhorns committed more turnovers (13-10), but gained more points off the Gamecocks’ turnovers (13-6). Texas also won the rebounding battle (42-35) and scored more in the paint (40-26).
With the win, Texas improves to 24-2 overall and 10-1 in conference play. Up next, the Longhorns will travel to Kentucky.
South Carolina drops to 22-2 overall and 10-1 in the SEC. The Gamecocks will look to bounce back against Florida.
