Texas has its eyes on 2025 with Arch Manning finally at the helm, but the Longhorns are also looking down the road — far down the road.
That road will eventually lead to the 2028 season, and on Saturday afternoon Steve Sarkisian‘s program got a big victory on the recruiting trail with a very early commitment from 2028 edge rusher King Pitts. The commitment by the California product was reported by Rivals.
Texas has been hard after Pitts recently, making an offer to the 6-foot-5, 255-pounder last week in the leadup to its Week 2 matchup against San Jose State. A little over a week later, the Longhorns apparently got their guy for 2028 in Pitts. He also received offers from SMU, Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado State, Fresno State and Georgia State.
But Pitts won’t be staying out west to play his college ball, deciding to head to the SEC and Austin in 3 years. According to the On3 report, Pitts was mulling whether to make such an early commitment to Texas, but by Saturday he wasn’t wondering anymore, deciding to give his commitment to Sarkisian.
According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Pitts is a 4-star product who is the 61st-ranked player in the Class of 2028. He’s also one of the top talents in the state of California, with experience at offensive tackle along with edge rusher. The composite rankings have Pitts as the 7th-ranked offensive tackle in the class and the 4th-ranked player from California.
Pitts is Texas’s first commit for the 2028 class.
