Texas entered the Red River Rivalry coming off a disappointing loss to Florida last week. Much of the talk was how the defense was dominated by the Florida offense. The Longhorns defense dominated the Oklahoma offense all day, and was able to get off the field on third downs.

During the fourth quarter, the Longhorns were up 13-6 when the defense once again got a big third down stop against the Sooners, forcing them to punt. On the ensuing play, sophomore defensive back Ryan Niblett made the play of the game, taking the punt back 75 yards for a touchdown.

With two losses headed into this game, the Longhorns could ill-afford to suffer another loss. It wasn’t easy early for the Longhorns, as the Sooners were in control for much of the first half. However, the Texas defense was able to keep Oklahoma out of the endzone and be down only 6-3 at the half.

It was the first game back for Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer, and they made things tough on him. They were able to pressure him all day, intercepting him 3 times.

The Texas offense isn’t clicking on all cylinders right now, and getting a performance like that by the defense or a big play in the special teams game is going to be key for the Longhorns moving forward.

The punt return touchdown made it 20-6 in favor of the Longhorns. Texas went on to win the game 23-6.
