Former Alabama wide receiver Chadarius Townsend is not only changing teams but also positions.
On Tuesday, Townsend announced his commitment to Texas Tech. Later in the week, the official Twitter account of Texas Tech football confirmed Townsend signed with the Red Raiders. In that announcement, he is listed as a running back.
The position change doesn’t come as a surprise and could be considered a formality. In three seasons at Alabama, Townsend played two seasons recording stats as a rusher and appearances on special teams. As a redshirt freshman in 2018, he appeared in 12 games on special teams. Last season, he saw action again on special teams (5 games) and offense. He recorded 2 rushes in the win over Southern Miss and logged 6 carries for 24 yards against Western Carolina. When news broke of Townsend entering the transfer portal, the current Alabama roster was listing him as a wide receiver.
Townsend committed to Alabama back in July of 2015 and signed as part of the 2017 recruiting class. The Tanner, Alabama product was rated a 4-star ATH.
