Texas Tech game delayed as horrifying, massive cloud rolls over stadium at halftime
The Texas Tech Red Raiders dominated the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions in the first half of their season opener on Saturday night. When the two teams went to the locker rooms, the Red Raiders led 47-0. Then, as if the Golden Lions didn’t already feel impending doom, Mother Nature piled things on.
Texas Tech extended its halftime on Saturday due to a humongous, terrifying cloud. The weather mass engulfed the entire Lubbock sky in an almost evil fashion.
Play finally resumed at 11:10 p.m. E.T.
Through 30 minutes of play, Texas Tech outgained Arkansas-Pine Bluff by nearly 340 yards (392-53). Quarterback Behren Morton went 16-of-18 (88.9%) for 201 yards and 4 passing touchdowns before exiting the game with a lower-body injury. Running backs Cameron Dickey (12 car., 90 yards) and J’Koby Williams (6 car., 56 yards) each added a rushing score on top of things.
Roughly 45 minutes before play ultimately resumed, the Red Raiders announced the remainder of the contest would feature 2 8-minute quarters.
Texas Tech — and Morton, more importantly — has two more weeks of non-conference games ahead of Big-12 play. The Red Raiders will host Kent State (Sept. 6) and Oregon State (Sept. 13) before traveling to Utah on Sept. 20. Kickoff time for that matchup is still to be determined.
