As the Tennessee Titans prepare for the 2017 season, they’ll do so with one of the best running-back tandems in the league in DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry.

Murray is entrenched as the starter currently, but Henry — a former Alabama star and the 2015 Heisman Trophy winner — is one of the NFL’s best backups.

On Tuesday, Murray — who is entering his seventh NFL season — told The Tennessean that Henry is the best backup he’s ever had:

“I would say every year I’ve had, really even in Dallas, I would always try to stay (on the field) longer because I didn’t trust the second-string guy or maybe the third-string guy to come in and (we’d) have a complete drop-off,” Murray said. “But for him, I know I can – boom – hey, give me a breather. I know he’ll pick up the slack and do well for us. So that definitely helps me mentally.”

Murray doesn’t sound too eager to give up many carries in 2017, but when he does need a breather, Henry will be ready to go.

As a rookie in 2016, Henry carried the ball 110 times for 490 yards and five touchdowns. With a full NFL season under his belt, he should be even more productive in 2017.
