Todd Golden has taken over the Florida men’s basketball program, and now he’s in the process of putting together his first coaching staff.
On Wednesday, it was announced that the Gators were hiring Korey McCray as the associate head coach under Golden.
McCray has spent the last 7 years on Ben Howland’s staff at Mississippi State. Prior to that, he worked at UCLA, LSU and other schools.
“Korey is one of the most respected coaches across the Southeastern Conference, and he has proven the ability to recruit and develop complete student-athletes at the highest level,” Golden said in a release. “He has worked tirelessly to build real relationships all around the country – specifically within the Southeast region. As a former point guard in college, he has great leadership qualities that will rub off on our student-athletes. He is a great husband and father, and he will be an integral part of my coaching staff moving forward.”
McCray has plenty of SEC experience, which is a plus for Golden, as the Gators’ new head coach has none.
But, Golden is clearly prioritizing highly regarded assistants for his staff, which should bode well for the future of the Florida program as he prepares for the 2022-23 season.
