Travis Hunter is not downplaying the fact that he wants to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The former Colorado star and Heisman Trophy winner met with reporters in Indianapolis on Thursday on Day 1 of the NFL Scouting Combine. He didn’t mince words when asked about the prospect of being the top pick in April’s draft.

“That’s super important,” Hunter said, via ESPN. “That was one of my dreams, to go No. 1.”

Hunter is certainly in the mix to go No. 1 overall, but there’s still quite a bit of uncertainty regarding who will ultimately be picked in that spot by the Tennessee Titans. According to the latest odds from BetMGM, former Miami quarterback Cam Ward is a favorite at -160 to be the pick. Former Penn State star Abdul Carter is not far behind at +145.

Hunter has the 3rd-best odds as of publication, but there’s quite a big drop-off between Carter and Hunter and +800. It appears Hunter has some ground to make up if he wants to be the top pick in this year’s draft.

One thing that could help his case: versatility. Hunter famously played on both sides of the ball at Colorado, recording over 1,000 snaps for the Buffs in 2024. He was elite at both wide receiver and cornerback throughout his collegiate career. Hunter said Thursday that he hopes his next team will allow him to continue playing on both sides of the ball.

“I’ve been doing it for a long time, so I feel like I can keep doing it,” Hunter said, via ESPN. ” … That’s not my job to figure it out. I’d like to play both. If they give me the opportunity to play both sides of the ball, I’ll play both sides.”
