Travis Hunter shares emotional moment with Deion Sanders after winning the Heisman
Travis Hunter won the Heisman Trophy, and then the emotional tidal wave started flowing.
After Colorado’s 2-way star got through the emotions himself, he got up and then it was time to embrace Coach Prime. When Hunter hugged head coach Deion Sanders, it was a really long embrace to complete a really long journey. The junior arrived at the pinnacle of college football on Saturday night, walking away with the most prestigious award there is in the sport.
For all that, it was time to thank Coach Prime.
And after he was done his long embrace with his head coach, it was time to hug his quarterback, Shedeur Sanders, a star of his own who formed a deadly passing combo with Hunter this fall. Hunter caught a jaw-dropping 92 passes for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns this fall, and so he owed Shedeur Sanders a big thank you, just like he did his head coach.
“Coach Prime, Shedeur, man y’all changed my life forever,” Hunter said moments after the embraces during his acceptance speech. “I try not to get emotional because I know our last game is coming up. But I’m thankful for both of you all.”
That last game Hunter is talking about comes in a few weeks when Colorado faces BYU in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 28. Kickoff from San Antonio will be at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
It is expected to be Hunter’s final time on a college football field before he heads for the 2025 NFL Draft. It’ll be something special, but it’ll be hard to top Saturday night.
