Tre Wilson (full name Eugene Wilson III) was the star of Florida’s opening drive in the 29-16 win over Tennessee. He caught 6 passes for 44 yards to finish as the Gators’ leading receiver despite exiting in the first half due to a collarbone injury.

Florida coach Billy Napier shared the latest on Wilson’s status during his Monday press conference.

“Tre is banged up. Nothing long-term, ultimately the X-ray is normal,” Napier said on Monday. “I think that it will take him a little bit of time to return.

“Now, it’s going to be a pain-tolerance deal. It will be to be determined. Could be this week, could be next week. We’ll give you an update on Wednesday where we’re officially at. The good thing here, big picture, I think we’re going to get him back at some point.”

Napier’s squad takes a break from SEC play in Week 4, hosting Charlotte. With the heart of the SEC schedule on deck, the Gators hope that “some point” is sooner than later for Wilson to return to action.

UF is on the road in Week 5 at Kentucky. The Wildcats have a 2-game winning streak in the annual SEC East clash.

A former 4-star prospect out of Gaither in Tampa, Wilson committed to Florida over Texas A&M and others. Also a high school track star, Wilson’s blazing speed has translated well to the football field. Wilson has 12 catches for 104 yards along with 2 rushes for 27 yards in his freshman season.
