Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins are in Cincinnati to face Joe Burrow and the Bengals on “Thursday Night Football”.

Football fans in Cincinnati were thrilled last season to see their hometown Bearcats claim the first College Football Playoff berth for a non-Power 5 team, along with the Bengals making it to the Super Bowl. The dream ended for the Bearcats in the Cotton Bowl semifinal, as Alabama, Tagovailoa’s alma mater, won 27-6 to advance to the CFP National Championship Game; weeks later, the Bengals fell to the Los Angeles Rams in the Big Game.

Due to the effects of Hurricane Ian on South Florida, the Dolphins flew to Cincinnati ahead of schedule and got a practice in at Nippert Stadium, the Bearcats’ on-campus home. They were met by some local fans, and one, we’ll say, didn’t have nice things to say about Bama.

“Y’all lost to us,” Tagovailoa shot back at the fan with a smile.

The numbers don’t lie. And Tagovailoa, who will play on Thursday after briefly exiting the Dolphins’ game against the Bills in Week 3, will hope that he can disappoint Cincinnati fans the same way he did in 2020: in his first game against the Bengals as a rookie, he was 26-of-39 with 296 yards and a touchdown as the Dolphins won 19-7.
