It’s no coincidence the two SEC players named semifinalists for the Lott IMPACT Trophy participated in arguably the best defensive struggle of the season.

LSU safety Jamal Adams and Alabama defensive lineman Jonathan Allen both made the list of 10 semifinalists for the award, The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation announced Thursday.

According the foundation, the accolade is annually presented to the “college football defensive player who has had the biggest IMPACT on his team both and off the field.” IMPACT is an acronym that stands for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.

Adams has 56 tackles (third-most for the Tigers) to go along with an interception and a forced fumble. Allen has seven sacks and 11 quarterback hurries. The pair of defenders put their skills on display when No. 1 Alabama beat No. 24 LSU 10-0 last Saturday.

The winner of the award will be announced Dec. 11. Here is the complete list of semifinalists for the Lott IMPACT Trophy:

Jamal Adams, S, LSU
Jonathan Allen, DL, Alabama
Budda Baker, S, Washington
Adoree’ Jackson, CB, USC
Andrew King, LB, Army
Desmond King, CB, Iowa
Weston Steelhammer, S, Air Force
Micah Kiser, LB, Virginia
Raekwon McMillan, LB, Ohio State
Jabrill Peppers, LB, Michigan
