Ty Simpson vows Alabama won’t ‘make the same mistake again’ vs. Vanderbilt

Ty Simpson was on the Alabama sideline in 2024 as the then-No. 1-ranked Crimson Tide were on the wrong side of one of the biggest upset losses in college football history against Vanderbilt. Despite 310 yards passing and two touchdowns from Jalen Milroe — one passing and one rushing — the Tide saw a 23-game, four-decade-long winning streak against the Commodores snapped.
Simpson is now the Tide’s starting quarterback as they host Vandy at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday. Since falling to the Commodores in Tuscaloosa in 1984, the Tide have won the last nine meetings at home.
“I felt how it was last year,” Simpson recalled (via AL.com). “But the mentality of our locker room this week is … we remember last year, what are we going to do about it? Even though it’s not about last year [and] it’s about us, we’re not going to make the same mistake again.”
Simpson added that both teams are different from last year, each side bringing its own strengths to the Week 6 matchup.
“This is a top 25 matchup [and] College GameDay is coming in here,” he said. “This is a really, really, really good Vanderbilt team…so we need to come in with the mentality (of) Alabama against the world.”
Kickoff from Tuscaloosa is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
