UAB coach Trent Dilfer explains why he was on his phone before Tennessee game
Tennessee defeated UAB 56-24 on Saturday afternoon in front of a raucous crowd at Neyland Stadium.
UAB head coach Trent Dilfer was evidently impressed with the atmosphere — he went viral just before kickoff when television cameras caught him on his phone appearing to send messages and take video.
After the game, Dilfer confirmed that’s what he was doing. According to AL.com, Dilfer told reporters he was sending videos of the stadium to his daughter and grandson.
“My phone’s out on the sideline every game,” Dilfer said after the game. “I have a daughter who’s getting ready to give birth, and I wanted to show her the environment. And I always FaceTime or send a video to my grandson.”
Evidently it was business-as-usual for Dilfer, who is in his third season as UAB’s head coach. He’s yet to generate much momentum at the program as the Blazers are now 9-18 during his tenure. UAB is 2-2 so far this season and will get back to American Athletic Conference play in a couple of weeks against Army.
With the win on Saturday, Tennessee is now 6-0 all time against UAB.
