Derrick Ansley’s decision to join Nick Saban’s staff at Alabama created a void on the Kentucky coaching staff that won’t be filled easily.
Wildcats coach Mark Stoops has been on the lookout for a suitable defensive backs coach to take Ansley’s place, but the search has produced more questions than answers to this point.
Reports of interest in former NFL standout Ed Reed were quickly dismissed, and now The Courier-Journal’s Jon Hale has squashed two more rumors on Tuesday morning.
Hale’s sources say that both Texas A&M DB coach Terry Joseph and former South Carolina DB coach Grady Brown are not considered to be candidates for the job, despite reports surfacing to the contrary in recent days.
Hale writes that the Wildcats are not close to making a hire on any candidate:
Multiple candidates remain in play for the job, but the source indicated UK could still be at least a week away from any official hire.
The opening the Kentucky staff is one of just two SEC assistant coaching jobs available at this point, with the other being the defensive line job at Texas A&M.
