Urban Meyer has Texas making it back to college football’s biggest stage.

Meyer named the Longhorns atop his current College Football Playoff field of 4 through the season’s Week 3. During Saturday’s “Big Noon Kickoff,” Meyer named his top 4 teams.

The three-time national champion as a head coach pointed to Texas’ resume for ranking the Longhorns No. 1.

“The criteria I used for this is very simple: What is your body of work?” Meyer said Saturday. “Two of them had the best wins in college football, and the second is the roster. Texas (is No. 1). Texas has the best roster in the country and has the best win by far in Tuscaloosa.”

Meyer actually named 5 teams in his top 4. For now, he’s grouping Michigan and Ohio State together before their Rivalry Week showdown.

“No. 2, I have Georgia. You’re the man until you beat the man,” Meyer said. “Then I have the Wolverines and Ohio State. It’s The Game. … I will say that for 3 months. Then finally I have Florida State. They have the second-best win against LSU.”

The CFP selection committee will not unveil its top 25 until Halloween. For now, Georgia is the consensus No. 1 as the top team AP Top 25 and Coaches Poll. As 2-time defending national champions, the Bulldogs began the season ranked No. 1.
