Urban Meyer is familiar with the kind of wide receivers Alabama usually has, and the FOX Sports analyst simply doesn’t see that standard of player against Texas.

Meyer spoke with Tim May about what he saw from the Crimson Tide last week.

“I think they’re young, really talented receivers, I did some homework afterwards they’re really talented, they’re just young,” Meyer said.

It may take some time before Alabama develops multiple NFL-type receivers as it’s done in the past.

“But you go back to Julio Jones, Amari Cooper who we faced in the big game and the Sugar Bowl,” Meyer said. “Then recently Jameson Williams, [Jaylen] Waddle, DeVonta [Smith] the Heisman Trophy winner, those guys were not good, they’re great and I didn’t see that. I didn’t see any greatness, I think it’s gonna come because they’re really young and talented.”

Nick Saban said earlier Wednesday that speedster Tyler Harrell would not play this week as he continues to recover from a foot injury.

Traeshon Holden leads Alabama with 9 catches for 109 yards and 2 touchdowns. Kobe Prentice also has 9 catches for 87 yards, while Jermaine Burton has 7 catches for 45 yards and 2 touchdowns.
