Urban Meyer has shared his predicted field of 4 for this year’s College Football Playoff. While there have been seasons in which 2 teams from 1 conference have made the CFP, Meyer sees 4 conferences being represented this time around.
Meyer predicts the No. 1 seed will be a Big Ten team. Michigan and Ohio State are slotted at No. 1 by Meyer. The B1G rivals, each currently ranked in the top 3, are set to face off on Nov. 25 in Ann Arbor.
Ohio State was No. 1 in the initial CFP selection committee rankings revealed on Halloween. While there has been speculation that the loser of The Game could again make the Playoff, Meyer sees teams from the SEC, ACC and Pac-12 taking the other 3 spots. Considering either OSU or Michigan will pick up a regular-season loss, Meyer appears to be projecting 4 undefeated conference champions.
Meyer has Georgia as the Playoff’s No. 2 seed. Two-time defending national champion UGA is 9-0 heading into a Week 11 showdown with a 1-loss Ole Miss team. The Bulldogs can clinch the SEC East with a win over the Rebels.
Florida State checks in at No. 3 in Meyer’s rankings. The Seminoles were No. 4 in the first CFP rankings and improved to 9-0. FSU plays Miami, North Alabama and Florida before the ACC Championship Game.
Meyer’s 4th spot goes to Washington. The Huskies are 9-0 with an impressive win over Oregon. UW was outside the top 4 in the Halloween rankings, but would likely move ahead of a 1-loss team as an undefeated conference champion.
We’ll see how Meyer’s picks hold up over the next few weeks.
