Vanderbilt defensive back Ja’Dais Richard, who played 11 games for the Commodores his freshman season in 2022, entered the transfer portal Tuesday afternoon. He’s the 2nd Commodore defensive back to do so this offseason.

This is a rough loss for Vanderbilt. Richard was planned to be a top contributor for the Commodores’ secondary next season after playing well to end last year’s campaign. The former 4-star finished the season with 6 tackles, 2 passes deflected and 1 sack.

He announced his entry into the portal via Twitter Tuesday:

“I want to start off by saying thank you to coach (Clark) Lea and the whole Vanderbilt staff for taking me in with open arms,” Richard wrote. “To (defensive backs) coach (Dan) Jackson, I appreciate you for teaching me about life and ball. To my teammates, I love y’all boys. God has a different path for me in my life. I’ll always cherish the brotherhood and memories we made together. With that being said, I will be entering my name into the NCAA transfer portal with three years of eligibility left.”

Though his stats on the field weren’t overly impressive, he’ll likely have a diverse pick of schools to attend for next season.
