The search for the next head coach of the LSU football program is officially underway, and there have already been some major twists and turns in the 5 days that have passed since Brian Kelly was let go by the university.
Some of the biggest headlines have been made by Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, who has been very vocal about this entire process. Landry made some interesting comments regarding the structure of the contract the next head coach for the Tigers will receive, stating that the next head coach will have a “patently different” buyout structure than the one Kelly received.
Interim athletic director Verge Ausberry, who has been tasked with heading up the search for LSU’s next head coach, was asked whether or not he will be pushing for a more incentive-based contract. However, Ausberry said the search committee’s priority will be finding the best possible head coach for LSU.
“I’ve spoken with the board members and I was told ‘get the best football coach there is. Don’t worry about that at all,'” Ausberry said at a press conference on Friday.
Despite Landry’s comments earlier in the week, it appears as if LSU’s top priority is finding the right the guy to lead them back to contention regardless of what the cost ends up being.
