Video: Finebaum slams Bob Stoops, defines Oklahoma’s discipline as a ‘total failure’
Has Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops become too soft when it comes to player discipline? ESPN and SEC Network host Paul Finebaum firmly believes the answer is yes.
It does seem that star Oklahoma football players have often been in the news for the wrong reasons in recent seasons. Whether it’s running back Joe Mixon punching a woman in the face – breaking several of her bones in the act, receiver Dede Westbrook being arrested twice for domestic violence complaints before arriving in Norman – of which Stoops claims he was unaware, or starting quarterback Baker Mayfield being arrested and charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and fleeing. Not to mention Stoops giving receiver Dorial Green-Beckham another chance after he was kicked off Missouri’s team for allegedly pulling a woman down a flight of stairs by her hair.
During a recent ESPN segment, Finebaum came out strong against Stoops.
“When it comes to discipline, I believe he’s a total failure,” Finebaum said.
In the same segment, former Sooner Dusty Dvoracek disagreed with Finebaum. A team captain and preseason All-American candidate for Oklahoma in 2004, Dvoracek was booted from the team by Stoops during the season following a series of off the field incidents. The following offseason, Dvoracek earned his way back onto the team and made the most out of his second opportunity, eventually making it to the NFL.
