Every true Alabama fan knows about “The Process” made famous by Nick Saban. While the slogan has become the stuff of legend in Tuscaloosa, it actually got started in East Lansing, Michigan.

During his tenure as Michigan State’s coach, Saban reveals “The Process” really found its roots when his Spartan team defeated then No. 1-ranked Ohio State team in 1998. That Buckeye team seemed destined to compete for the national title that season, but instead, became the first victim of “The Process.”

In the video below, discovered by FootballScoop, Saban shares not only the origin of the saying but why he finds it to be so effective for his Alabama program.

“I think that I’ve convinced myself through the years, that the process-oriented approach is much, much better,” Saban says in the video. “And it’s much better for competitors because it keeps them focused on the right things. Not the results, but what it takes to get the results.”
