Among our favorite moments routinely captured around the nation is when a player who is actively paying his way through school in addition to competing on the gridiron finally earn their way onto the roster as a full-ride scholarship player.
The latest player to earn that honor is now former walk-on for Tulane, Brian Newman. The senior receiver found out in the program was putting him on scholarship during the team’s recent banquet ceremony. You can tell by the video that the honor came as a complete surprise to Newman.
Check out his reaction below:
Hey @B_Newman17 how do you feel about not having to pay for school anymore?
We couldn’t be happier to award you a scholarship!#WellDeserved #RollWave ? #NolaBuilt pic.twitter.com/szgWHR3mmv

The reactions from his teammates and the Tulane fans are great.
After the event, he got to call his dad and break the great news. You can tell by the phone call just how much that means to his proud father.
That moment when you call your dad to tell him you've been awarded a scholarship for your senior year:
Congrats again, @B_Newman17! You deserve this.#RollWave pic.twitter.com/6e2qoc20n9
