WATCH: USC Trojans sign player who punched a referee during game

USC head coach Clay Helton announced Tuesday night that the Trojans had signed JUCO OL Bernard Schirmer.
In 2016, Schirmer was a freshman at Mount San Antonio College when he clocked a referee during a game knocking him out cold turkey. The lineman has maintained since the incident that his punch was accidental.
Although Schirmer was arrested for the in-game act, he did not face any criminal charges. Helton said the Trojans evaluated Schirmer extensively before signing him, and he thinks he’ll be a great member of the team.
