Artificial intelligence is here. With ChatGPT, Grok and other big-name AI helpers dominating the online space these days, there have been both good and bad sides to the AI revolution.
But we’re not here to make any overarching comments on the state of AI in today’s world. No, we’re here to rank all 16 SEC squads heading into the 2025 season.
If you want my (100% human) post-spring SEC power rankings, you can click here.
But for this piece, I asked ChatGPT and Grok to put together their 16-team SEC power rankings.
ChatGPT vs. Grok 2025 SEC Power Rankings
I’ve compiled the results from each AI bot in the table below:
ChatGPT Rankings | Grok Rankings |
---|---|
1. Texas | 1. Texas |
2. Georgia | 2. Georgia |
3. LSU | 3. Alabama |
4. Alabama | 4. Ole Miss |
5. Tennessee | 5. Florida |
6. South Carolina | 6. Texas A&M |
7. Florida | 7. LSU |
8. Texas A&M | 8. Tennessee |
9. Ole Miss | 9. South Carolina |
10. Missouri | 10. Oklahoma |
11. Auburn | 11. Auburn |
12. Oklahoma | 12. Missouri |
13. Vanderbilt | 13. Arkansas |
14. Arkansas | 14. Vanderbilt |
15. Kentucky | 15. Kentucky |
16. Mississippi State | 16. Mississippi State |
So there you have it. It seems Grok and ChatGPT are aligned on the top 2 teams and the bottom 2 squads. Texas and Georgia lead the way in both rankings, while Kentucky and Mississippi State bring up the rear.
From there, the only other consensus ranking is, interestingly, Auburn at No. 11.
Where are the major disagreements?
ChatGPT and Grok are noticeably divided on where to place LSU. ChatGPT has the Tigers in the No. 3 spot, while Grok has Brian Kelly‘s squad down at No. 7. Here’s what each AI assistant said about LSU:
ChatGPT
LSU: Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier returns after a 4,000-yard season, and coach Brian Kelly has bolstered the roster through the transfer portal. The defense’s improvement will be key to their championship aspirations.
Grok
LSU: Brian Kelly’s Tigers have the talent to make a playoff run if the offensive line holds up. Despite a lackluster 2024, their depth and favorable home schedule keep them in the top tier. The loss of key players like Brady Cook hurts Missouri more than LSU’s losses.
Yeah, I’m not sure what Grok is talking about there with Brady Cook, but maybe it means LSU is in line to jump Missouri in the power rankings due to Eli Drinkwitz and company losing Cook?

Another big disagreement between Grok and ChatGPT involved Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels. ChatGPT had the Rebels at No. 9, while Grok put Ole Miss at No. 4.
Here’s what they had to say about what the outlook is in Oxford:
ChatGPT
Ole Miss: Despite significant roster turnover, coach Lane Kiffin’s strong transfer class and new QB Austin Simmons aim to keep the Rebels competitive.
Grok
Ole Miss: Lane Kiffin’s squad is bolstered by a strong transfer portal class, with Cayden Lee emerging as a potential WR1 and linebacker Suntarine Perkins as a defensive star. The Rebels are primed for a playoff push, but discipline issues from last season need addressing to compete for the SEC crown.
Austin Simmons is going to be a guy we hear a lot about as the season approaches.
What about Georgia and Texas?
Both AI bots had Texas at No. 1 with Georgia at No. 2, despite Georgia going 2-0 against Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns in 2024.
Here’s what the AI assistants had to say about the top 2 teams in their SEC power rankings:
On Texas
ChatGPT
Texas: Arch Manning steps into the spotlight as the starting quarterback, leading a team that reached the SEC Championship in its inaugural SEC season. With a strong roster and coaching staff, Texas is poised for a title run.
Grok
Texas: The Longhorns are poised to lead the SEC, leveraging their defensive prowess and a dynamic offense. Despite some uncertainty at quarterback with Quinn Ewers’ injury history, Arch Manning has shown promise as a potential starter. Their depth and favorable schedule position them as a top contender for the SEC title and a College Football Playoff (CFP) berth.
Quinn Ewers, obviously, is no longer at Texas, but I’ll give Grok the benefit of the doubt and assume it meant Manning showed flashes of brilliance last year while Ewers was injured.
On Georgia
ChatGPT
Georgia: Despite losing quarterback Carson Beck, the Bulldogs remain a powerhouse. New QB Gunner Stockton will be supported by a talented roster, including standout transfers like WR Zachariah Branch.
Grok
Georgia: Despite losing 13 players to the NFL Draft, Georgia remains a powerhouse with a strong transfer portal class, including receivers and running back Josh McCray. Questions linger about quarterback Gunner Stockton, but the Bulldogs’ depth and Kirby Smart’s coaching make them a CFP contender. Their schedule includes tough road games, but their talent should keep them near the top.
Will this lead to another meeting between the Longhorns and Bulldogs in Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game? Only time will tell.
