Gurley looks to power Bulldogs past South Carolina
Georgia’s scoring woes in Columbia have been well-documented, but this is a different Georgia team. The Bulldogs are a veteran club with playmakers at the skill positions and are riding a wave of momentum since their win over Clemson on Aug. 30.
Mark Richt and his staff have been demanding in the two weeks of practice since the ‘Dawgs season-opening win. Georgia players know their team’s history over the past 20 years at Williams-Brice Stadium and several Bulldog players remember what happened to the No. 5 Bulldogs suffered a 35-7 beatdown at the hands of the Gamecocks.
The Georgia Bulldogs rushed for 328 yards three weeks ago, 198 of those coming from Todd Gurley. He tallied just 15 carries, but was fresh late in the game due to Georgia’s deep stable of backs.
He now faces a South Carolina defense that is surrendering 150 yards per game on the ground and has had trouble tackling. The Gamecocks allowed 132 yards per game to an East Carolina team that averaged more than six yards per carry.
Gurley rushed for just 39 yards on 13 carries two years ago, but faces a much more vulnerable Carolina defense.
