Jimbo Fisher and Nick Saban go way back.
The Texas A&M head coach worked for Saban at LSU, where Fisher was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
At Fisher’s previous stop (FSU), he coached against Nick Saban just last season, a game the Tide dominated 24-7. Fast forward to 2018, and the two meet again in Tuscaloosa Saturday, this time for an SEC West clash.
Although they’re very familiar with one another, the familiarity will have little bearing on how Saturday’s game will play out.
On Monday, Fisher spoke with the media, and he touched on a number of topics concerning this week’s opponent. Here’s what he said about Alabama Monday:
- Alabama has an outstanding team, as we all know, defending national champions and all that. They’re playing outstanding this year.
It’s going to take all three phases: offense, defense and special teams. - They’re sound and they’re dynamic. They can score points even their defense. They’ve got great rush guys
- Offensively, runners are powerful. Tight ends can get vertical. The three or four receivers that play are dynamic.
- Tua’s playing outstanding, and then, when Jalen plays, he plays outstanding.
- What learned from Saban: He’s created a culture. They expect to win, and they know how to win. They have great players and they’re well coached. It definitely made me grow as a coach (working for Saban).
- On passing game with Tua: It looks different than a year ago. They’ve opened it up more. There’s a larger volume of drop back passes now. On first and second down, you’re seeing more volume of true passing plays than the past.
