College football fans are always eager to learn how coaches and media members rank the top 25 teams. Out in Las Vegas, oddsmakers have power rankings for all 133 FBS teams.
Phil Steele, widely recognized as one of college football’s leading experts, has connections to the smartest folks in the desert. Steele has published weekly in-season Vegas Power Ratings since his time at ESPN. He’s now independent but continues to publish the Vegas numbers in weekly updates on his website during the season.
Like the AP Top 25 and the Coaches Poll, Georgia is on top in Steele’s Vegas Power Rankings with the top rating. Alabama is the next SEC team, checking in at No. 10.
Steele notes that the difference in 2 teams’ Vegas Ratings gives an idea of what the opening betting line would be if they met on a neutral field. In the case of the SEC’s top 2 teams, Georgia would be a 6-point favorite over Alabama in a Week 8 neutral meeting. LSU is closing the gap on Alabama ahead of the Week 10 rivalry showdown.

As power rankings, the Vegas numbers don’t always reflect prior outcomes, but give a sense of how teams are seen entering Week 8. Steele cites Tennessee-Florida, Arkansas-BYU and Texas-Oklahoma as games in which the loser is currently rated higher than the winner and would be favored on a neutral field.
