Why Orioles pitcher David Hess wore an LSU football helmet in dugout

Baltimore Orioles rookie pitcher David Hess created a funny scene in the dugout Friday night.
Prior to the game, Hess was throwing the football around and running routes on the field, and he hilariously took one to the face, which gave him a huge shiner on his left eye. (The video is below).
Following the incident, Hess wore an LSU football helmet in the dugout, although he couldn’t tell you where it came from. It’s likely his teammates were poking fun at the rookie for taking one to the face. After all, pitchers like to think of themselves as athletes, too.
“I could not entirely tell you where the LSU helmet came from,” Hess told USA Today. “It appeared in the second inning and I was told to wear it so I wore it.”

It’s not unusual for baseball players to throw around footballs. It helps strengthen their arms.
The LSU helmet wasn’t any sort of rally helmet, though, as the Orioles got smoked by the Rays 14-2. Hess is also 3-9 this season with a 5.27 ERA, and he’s set to start Saturday night.
He should probably stick to baseball though.
