Will Muschamp was clearly proud of his squad following the big 35-28 win. The Gamecocks came out firing on all cylinders from the opening kickoff, as Deebo Samuel took the opening kickoff to the house and the offense scored on its first two possessions of the game.

The Gamecock defense also played well in spots, getting to N.C. State quarterback Ryan Finley several times in the game, causing two turnovers and sealing the win with a goal line stand in the final moments of the game. The news wasn’t all great on that side of the ball, though, as the defense gave up over 400 yards passing and helped N.C. State stay in the game.

Here’s a small sampling of what Muschamp had to say following the first win of the season.

“We did a good job rushing four guys but the ball was out so quick, you couldn’t get there,” Muschamp said. “It was a dink and dunk pass game but the defense did a fantastic job. N.C. State has an outstanding football team, David and his staff do a fantastic job. I’m extremely proud of our young men.”
