Will Muschamp updates status of lineman Zack Bailey, previews Arkansas game
The Gamecocks are coming off another tough SEC loss at Texas A&M and appear to be facing a crossroads this season with an upcoming home game against Arkansas this weekend. The South Carolina offense has been slowed in recent weeks due to a combination of injuries and a lack of a running attack and will need to muster up some offense to get its second league win of the season against the Razorbacks.
During his appearance on the SEC’s weekly Coaches Teleconference, Will Muschamp gave his assessment on his team heading into the bye.
Here’s a summary of what the South Carolina coach had to say on the call:
- “We’ve had a good Tuesday and Wednesday, looking forward to hosting Arkansas.”
- What do you make of the new faces on Arkansas offense? “Outside they are young but they have vertical and big guys that are coming on their own. They are good skill people, they do things that are very unusual on offense (pro-style).”
- Your defense has been on the field so long but haven’t given up the big play or many points, how do you manage that? “Well, we’ve been doing a good job in the red zone. We’ve managed our opponents to kick field goals.”
- Where are you on offense? “We need to score more points, we didn’t do that against Texas A&M. We got whipped up front. We have got to be more productive. We have missed seven kicks, we’ve turned it over in the red zone.”
- What is the health of your OL? “Zack Bailey will be the only one that has a chance to play. We’ll know more about that later in the week.”
- Impressions of Kellen Mond? “Wow. Very poised, Noel Mazzone is doing a good job of helping him. His RBs are excellent. They are playing to their strengths. He really hurt us with his legs. He made a great throw on a 3rd and 9. We had it covered but he just made a good throw.”
