Will Urban Meyer return from administrative leave? Social media weighs in
By Keith Farner
Published:
Following Ohio State’s decision to place Urban Meyer on paid administrative leave, there was no shortage of reaction on Twitter as fans, media and other college football observers gave their thoughts on Meyer’s future, and how this affects his career.
The Ohio State coach was placed on leave for an indefinite amount of time following Brett McMurphy’s reporting on the domestic violence allegations against former Ohio State assistant Zach Smith.
The reactions largely fell into three categories: He’s finished at Ohio State; he won’t miss a game; and this is not a surprise because of how Meyer left Florida. Some also pointed out that the story shifts to the investigation into what Meyer knew and when he knew it. And if he is re-instated, what information must university leaders learn to make that decision?
Much of this also stems from Meyer’s reaction to questions last week at Big 10 Media Days about the allegations and termination of Smith.
Here are some reactions to the news:
So it was as quiet a summer as I can remember. And now a stunning situation. Though there is an investigation to complete, hard to imagine this isn’t the beginning of the end for Meyer at Ohio State. Hard to fathom. https://t.co/xDGFKAdzLt

Firm believer that had Urban just said “We fired Zack Smith and it’s something that I should have done a while ago and I take responsibility for not doing it sooner” at Big 10 Media Days this story would have had a much different path.
Alas, that wasn’t the case.

Admin leave changes future perception.
To bring Urban back from that, evidence has to be overwhelming he didnt know. Burden of proof has essentially changed now.
No way he comes back. https://t.co/dZah4FyWt2

Urban Meyer placed on leave because its alleged he knew about an allegation. What a world we live in.

OSU has taken a step but isn’t all the way there. Frankly, based off his past comments, Urban Meyer should resign. But he won’t because he’s a hypocrite.
