The hammer has come down on Urban Meyer, at least for the time being.

The Ohio State coach has been placed on leave for an indefinite amount of time following Brett McMurphy’s explosive expose on the domestic violence allegations against former Ohio State assistant Zach Smith. Meyer will continue to be paid by the school during this time while the school investigates the situation.

The school issued the following statement announcing the news:

“The university is conducting an investigation into these allegations. During the inquiry, Urban Meyer will be on paid administrative leave. Ryan Day will serve as acting head coach during the investigation. We are focused on getting to the truth as expeditiously as possible.”

Meyer released a statement following the news:

“(Ohio State AD) Gene (Smith) and I agree that being on leave during this inquiry will facilitate its completion. This allows the team to conduct training camp with minimal distraction. I eagerly look forward to the resolution of this matter.”
