College basketball season overlaps with the end of the college football season, so it’s not unusual for football teams to play a school their basketball team has already faced.
In fact, in the BCS/College Football Playoff era, there have been three separate occasions in which the National Championship Game was between two schools that had already played in basketball.
According to ESPN Stats & Info, the school that won the basketball game each time also went on to win the football title:
This is the 4th time in the BCS/CFP era where the eventual football Champ Game participants meet in basketball first. Each of the previous 3 times, the winner of the basketball game also won the football game.

Alabama and Georgia, interestingly, met up in Athens on Saturday afternoon, and in a good sign for the Bulldogs, they mopped the floor with the Tide, cruising to an easy 65-46 victory:

Obviously, this is more of a coincidence than anything else, but the Bulldogs will take any good sign they can get as they head toward Monday’s National Championship Game.
