Zach Arnett is taking over as the head coach of the Mississippi State Bulldogs after the death of Mike Leach at age 61 last month.
Arnett’s first game as the leader of the Bulldogs was Monday’s ReliaQuest Bowl, which Mississippi State won 19-10 in dramatic fashion.
After the game, Arnett was asked what Leach would have thought of his first game as the Mississippi State head coach. Arnett delivered a perfect response:
Zach Arnett on what Mike Leach would think of his first game as head coach: “I think he’d be pretty mad at me for some of that bad clock management.”

“I think he’d be pretty mad at me for some of that bad clock management,” Arnett quipped.
Still, a 19-10 win is a win, so Arnett should be proud of the way his team played in honor of its late coach. It was a fittingly bizarre ending for a man who loved nothing more than the oddities of life.
