Oklahoma softball is looking to start a new streak after its run of four straight Women’s College World Series titles was broken up by Texas in 2025. The Sooners are a step closer to doing just that, beating Michigan 8-1 on Sunday to win the Norman Regional.
Oklahoma, the No. 3 national seed, will host the winner of Sunday night’s Eugene regional final between No. 5 national seed Mississippi State and Saint Mary’s.
Oklahoma opened up a 3-0 first-inning lead behind Gabbie Garcia’s RBI single with no one out, followed later by Isabela Emerling’s two-run, two-out single. Garcia added a sacrifice fly in the top of the second to stretch it to 4-0.
After Michigan scored its lone run in the bottom of the second, the Sooners added one in the fourth as Kai Minor powered one over the center field wall to make it 5-1.
Oklahoma then tacked on two more in the fifth before Aliana Agbayani wrapped up the scoring in the top of the seventh with a solo shot.
Three Oklahoma pitchers combined for the win as they allowed one run, three hits, and zero walks while striking out four. It capped a dominant three days for the Sooners, who outscored opponents 28-1 in the regional round.
The Sooners’ victory extended what has been an impressive streak for the program. Oklahoma has advanced to Super Regionals in all but one season since 2010. The only time it didn’t was in 2020, when it started 20-4 before the college softball season was shut down due to COVID-19.
