Super Cam, back.
Cam Newton returned to Charlotte this week as the Carolina Panthers were looking at a perilous quarterback situation following Sam Darnold’s shoulder injury. The former Panther hadn’t yet played this season after being released by the New England Patriots prior to Week 1, but Newton stepped back in like he’d never left.
The NFL’s all-time leader in rushing touchdowns by a quarterback and the Panthers’ all-time leader in passing yards (29,041), touchdowns (182), and rushing scores (58), Panther fans had grown accustomed to seeing Newton celebrating in the end zone over his time with Carolina.
Against the NFC-leading Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, Newton wasted no time.

After a turnover on downs by the Cardinals, the Panthers drove back down inside the Arizona 5 yard line and brought Newton back in.
He scored again.

The Panthers (4-5) are looking to get back to .500 on the season. When Newton spoke to the media for the first time earlier this week, he said his return wasn’t a PR stunt, but to help Carolina win. ” You know why I’m here,” he said. And this ain’t for no ploy, this ain’t for no ticket sales, this ain’t for no Cinderella story. It’s to win football games.”
So far, so good.
