Drew Brees replacement: NBC reportedly settles on former NFL head coach

NBC Sports has settled on Jason Garrett to replace Drew Brees on its popular Sunday night NFL pregame show, “Football Night in America.”
That news came from Andrew Marchand of The New York Post, who added that Garrett could still also succeed Brees as NBC’s Notre Dame game analyst, but a final decision has not been made there yet, according to sources.
Garrett, 56, is already working with NBC on its USFL coverage. He has been teamed with Jac Collinsworth, who could be Garrett’s partner on the Fighting Irish games. Brees teamed with Mike Tirico last year to call Notre Dame, while also calling two NFL games and working as part of the Sunday night studio show. Tirico has been promoted to be the play-by-play voice of “Sunday Night Football” in place of Al Michaels, who is now calling games on Amazon on Thursday nights.
Garrett, the long-time Dallas Cowboys coach, was the New York Giants’ offensive coordinator for more than a year before being fired by then-head coach Joe Judge early last year.
As for Brees, he may take the year off, but he could have an opportunity at Fox Sports to be its No. 2 game analyst, which includes 2 playoff games next season. However, Fox Sports does not have any plans to break the bank for Brees, Marchand reported.
