The numbers are in and while the game itself didn’t measure up as a classic, Super Bowl LX nonetheless was a smash hit for NBC.
The network announced that the Seattle Seahawks’ 29-13 victory vs. the New England Patriots ranked as the second-most watched Super Bowl of all time, with almost 125 million viewers. It was also the most watched show in the 100-year history of NBC. The 137.8 million viewers during the second quarter ranks as a record for peak viewership in the history of US television.
Meanwhile, reggaeton icon Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show now has over four billion views on social media, which is a record.
“The Super Bowl and the NFL once again delivered a blockbuster audience across the NBC broadcast network, Peacock, and Telemundo, and provided an unprecedented lead-in to our Primetime in Milan coverage,” NBC Sports president Rick Cordella said. “The Super Bowl and the Olympics are the two most powerful events in the world, and we salute our talented production, tech, and announce teams who delivered best-in-class presentations for our viewers, stations, and partners.”
This is the second Super Bowl championship for the Seahawks, who also defeated the Denver Broncos 43-8 in the 2013 season. It was Seattle’s first trip to the Super Bowl since a 28-24 loss to the Patriots in heartbreaking fashion during the 2014 season. The Seahawks are slated to have their championship parade on Wednesday in downtown Seattle.
