The Indianapolis Colts have moved on from coach Frank Reich after the team dropped to 3-5-1 on the season following a loss to the New England Patriots, its third straight.
Reich is the second NFL coach to be fired this season after Matt Rhule from the Carolina Panthers. The Colts have struggled for much of the season, and in recent weeks have replaced QB Matt Ryan, and fired offensive coordinator Marcus Brady. The Colts last week also traded running back Nyheim Hines.
The Colts came into the season as dark-horse contenders for the Super Bowl but could not find any traction.
After the latest loss, Reich reflected on what’s next.
“We’re 9 games into it. It’s not been pretty, but it’s hard right when you’re in the middle (of the season) to give any big self-evaluation,” Reich said, per the Associated Press. “Ultimately, I’m the head coach. We have higher expectations than where we’re at right now. I don’t want to stand up here and say, ‘Hey we can do it.’ We can and I’ve seen it done, but I’m not worried about that. I’m worried about doing my job better which means trying to get this team ready.”
