Urban Meyer faced plenty of criticism and scrutiny during his time as an NFL coach, and now another anecdote has surfaced.
The Athletic reported that the former Jacksonville Jaguars coach was not familiar with several star players in the NFL, including Deebo Samuel, Jamal Adams or Aaron Donald.
“Who’s this 99 guy on the Rams?,” the report quoted Meyer as saying. “I’m hearing he might be a problem for us.”

Meyer’s NFL coaching run ended after 13 games, with 2 victories, when the Jacksonville Jaguars fired him in December.
Meyer joins former Atlanta Falcons coach Bobby Petrino as college coaches whose NFL careers ended prematurely. Petrino resigned in December 2007 to take over at Arkansas. He was 3-10 at the time.
The Jaguars averaged just 9.1 points in Meyer’s final 7 games, which ended with a five-game losing streak.
It was apparent that Meyer tried to lead the NFL organization like a college program, and it didn’t sit well with the players.
