Former Texas golfer Scottie Scheffler won The Open Championship in dominant fashion on Sunday.

For Scheffler, it’s his 4th major win but his first Claret Jug. He’s now won 3 of golf’s 4 major championships, needing only the U.S. Open title to complete his career grand slam.

Scheffler dominated all weekend at Dunluce Course in Northern Ireland. He shot 3-under par on Sunday to finish with a score of -17 — 4 strokes better than the next-closest competitor. His best day of the weekend came on Friday when he shot a 64.

If Scheffler is able to complete the career grand slam next year or at some point in the future, he would join a very exclusive club in golf history. Rory McIlroy became the 6th player to earn that distinction earlier this year. He joined Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Ben Hogan and Gene Sarazen on that exclusive list.

Scheffler also matched Woods in a notable way on Sunday — he won his fourth major exactly 1,197 days from when he won his first major. That’s the exact time period that it took Woods to accomplish that feat.

The Open Championship is the final major on the golf calendar, but Scheffler is expected to compete for the United States in the Ryder Cup later this year. The Ryder Cup will be held from Sept. 26-28.
