Paul Finebaum says Bill Belichick would be a ‘home run hire’ for North Carolina
Paul Finebaum is a believer in the possibility of North Carolina hiring Bill Belichick to be its next head coach.
Belichick, arguably the greatest head coach in NFL history, has interviewed for the vacancy in recent days, per multiple media reports.
Finebaum addressed the idea during an appearance on ESPN airwaves Friday.
“Chapel Hill is a very unique situation,” Finebaum said. “The expectations aren’t the same as Georgia, Texas and Alabama. They have a great infrastructure. If they’re patient, I think he could turn that place around. Mack Brown almost got over the hump, he just couldn’t quite [get there]. Bill Belichick could easily do that.
“I think it would be a home run hire for North Carolina or anyone, frankly, in this part of the country.”
Nick Saban, who coached for Belichick when both worked for the Cleveland Browns in the early 1990’s, also made the case that Belichick would be a good college head coach on Friday.
There is no timetable for North Carolina to make an official decision on its next head coach. Whoever gets the job will be replacing Mack Brown, who exits as the winningest coach in North Carolina football history.
