Former Notre Dame standout defensive lineman Louis Nix III has been found dead, according to his mother.

Nix was reported missing by his mother 3 days ago, and he was found dead Saturday in Florida. NBC Sports is reporting that the Jacksonville, Florida, Sheriff’s Office pulled a car from the pond near Nix’s apartment that matched his vehicle’s description.

The former Irish defender was last seen alive Tuesday.

Nix was tragically shot in December while putting air in the tires of his car during an attempted armed robbery at a Jacksonville gas station, and the bullet ricocheted off of his sternum and went into his lung. Nix made it through surgery and seemed to be on the mend. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office hasn’t indicated that the shooting is in any way related to Nix’s death.

Nix played at Notre Dame from 2010-13, and he was drafted in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans.

He was 29.
