Notre Dame is one step closer to a berth in the College Football Playoff.

The Fighting Irish beat Virginia 35-14 on Saturday afternoon, moving to 9-1 on the season in the process.

This win means Notre Dame is now just 2 wins away from a likely at-large berth in the College Football Playoff. The Irish entered the week ranked No. 8 in the latest CFP committee rankings.

Notre Dame got off to a slow start offensively vs. the Cavaliers on Saturday, but ended up having a solid day on that side of the ball. The Irish amassed 450 yards of offense and averaged well over 6 yards per play in the win.

Jeremiyah Love had a big day, rushing for 137 yards and 2 touchdowns on just 16 carries. Quarterback Riley Leonard also had a nice day, tossing 3 touchdown passes in the win.

Defensively, Notre Dame caused plenty of issues for the Cavs. Virginia was shutout in the first half and only averaged 4.4 yards per play. The Irish also forced quarterback Anthony Colandrea into 3 interceptions.

Notre Dame will now turn its attention to a top-25 showdown with Army next weekend at Yankee Stadium.
