Notre Dame set to receive more than double previous revenue in new TV deal, per report

Notre Dame is an important piece in the changing landscape of college athletics, and much of that centers on the TV contracts and revenue the Fighting Irish command as a national brand.
John Ourand of Sports Business Journal reports that that Irish are set to more than double their current revenue from the NBC deal, from $25 million to around $60 million. The current agreement runs through 2025. Ourand noted that it’s difficult to predict how the media business will look 3 years from now.
Earlier this summer, Notre Dame was reportedly looking for a rights fee around $75 million per year. But the latest expectation falls short in part because Notre Dame plays the likes of Navy, which brings in lower TV ratings.
Obviously, Notre Dame would remain independent if it agrees to a new rights deal. But its association with NBC — and NBC’s new association with the Big Ten — make it likely that the Fighting Irish would add more Big Ten games to its schedule.
In other words, expect a return of Notre Dame’s rivalry with Michigan before 2033, which is when they are next scheduled to meet. The two last played in 2019. This season, Notre Dame has one Big Ten school (Ohio State) and one soon-to-be Big Ten school (USC) on its schedule.
